Hello! I’m Marcus…

…but this is not about me.

As an athlete-centred coach, my practice is about putting you at the heart of what we do. My running clients come to me because they recognise that I can help them to achieve more than they ever thought possible. By adopting a holistic approach towards coaching, I help people to reach for goals that they once believed were beyond their grasp. Ultimately, by uniting my learning as a coach with my experience as teacher, I can help you to grow as a runner.

If you’re still reading this, you are probably interested in improving as a runner. That’s something that I can certainly help you with.

Most people that I work with have a specific ambition, such as an event or a race, in mind. Some runners don’t have an outcome goal. Instead their aim is to improve the process of training, rather than simply going out running. Others runners seek ways to balance their training so that running enhances, rather than detracts from, their lives.

Whatever it is, I can help you to achieve far more than you ever thought possible. You’ll enjoy both the challenge of improvement and the support that outstanding run coaching brings. I’m not the sort of coach that sets you a programme and then distances himself from the process. Instead, I approach coaching as a dialogue through which you learn how to get the best out of yourself.

How it works

We talk. Our initial chat is based on getting to know you as a person and as a runner. What makes you tick? Why do you run? Why is it important to you? Why are your ‘whys’ important? We then look at some practicalities such as what your goals might be and how much time you are able to spend on these each week.

We plan. I plan out a short block of training which culminates in some form of assessment of your current fitness. This short block provides me with really useful feedback that I can use to plan for your progression towards your goal.

We go again. We talk about what we have learned through your assessment block of training, and then I plan out the first stage of your progression. Each week we talk about how your training is going and we refine and adapt it so that you can be confident that you are training in ways that are beneficial. Think of the process as a weekly conversation about running with honest, open, respectful feedback.

We succeed. Each week, and each part of the training cycle, builds towards your goal. You’ll enjoy the feedback that will help to keep you focused. You’ll welcome the manageable challenge that will provide the right training stimulus at the right time.

We celebrate. When you smash your goal, we celebrate! You’ll have that tremendous feeling of satisfaction that you have achieved what you set out to do. Don’t be surprised if you’ve achieved more that you ever thought possible. I have warned you!

The above coaching package is £50 per calendar month. This includes your weekly plan, your weekly coaching conversation, unlimited email or message support, and the smug glow of satisfaction from knowing you are getting better! Some athletes require a different sort of input and coaching. If that is the case, it’s no problem. Remember, athlete-centred coaching, always!
